Angeline Elizabeth Hurst

Angeline Elizabeth Hurst 94, of Yreka Angie passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Hospice House in Yreka, CA. She was born on June 4, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant, PA to Andy and Katherine Yeskulsky. Angie was one of twelve children. Three are still living. Angie grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and joined the military in 1943 and earned the rank of Staff Sargent in the Women’s Army Air Corp prior to her honorable discharge in 1945. She served in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII. Angie was very proud of her military service. She met her first husband, Howard Poore, while stationed overseas. She and Howard settled in Red Bluff, CA and had two children, Cathy and Donald. She was widowed after some twenty-five years of marriage. She met her second husband, Lester Hurst, ten years later. They were married for twenty years before Les succumbed to cancer. During their marriage they were world travelers, seeing much of Europe, Australia, Bora Bora, and many other exotic sites. They returned to North America and lived in the fifth wheel trailer for many years while traveling through Canada, Mexico, Central America, and most of the United States. They settled in Yreka when they came in off the road. Angie was an exceptional artist in many venues from sewing, to sculpture, to making the most beautiful wreaths. She won her share of blue ribbons at the local fair. She lived life to the fullest and had a strong spirit despite the adversities she dealt with during her lifetime. She remained the matriarch of the family up to the end. Angie was preceded in death by her two husbands and her son-in-law, Steve Lyman. She is survived by her children, Cathy Lyman of Yreka, and Don Poore and his wife Pam of Eureka; her grandchildren, Dave Doerr (Sheryl) of San Diego, Josh Poore and Michelle Carlin (Ted) of Eureka, Eric Lyman (Tessa) of Singapore, Stephanie Doherty (Mike) of Salem, OR; great grandchildren Holly Fuller, Taylor Poore, Bailey, Connor, and Addison Doherty, Zia and Koi Lyman, Elizabeth Carlin; great great grandchild Sophee Gelan. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 853 Evergreen Lane in Yreka at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
