Bernadine Ann Langford

Bernadine Langford passed away on October 12, 2020 at the age of 90. Her spirit is now free of the confines of her earthly body. Bernadine grew up in Gustine, California. She graduated from Gustine High School where she met and later married Ray Langford. They raised four children, moving with Ray's banking career starting in Oakland, then on to Red Bluff, Redding, and finally Yreka. During these years, Bernadine worked a variety of jobs in addition to volunteering her time to her favorite causes, all while orchestrating a loving, full life for her family. She worked as a bookkeeper, a seamstress, and a teacher's aide. She volunteered in school kitchens, church guilds, for the Montague Rotary Club and for the Madrone Hospice Shop. Her favorite job was as the receptionist at her son's dental practice in Yreka. She always offered a friendly smile along with her kind words, and genuinely cared about each patient she greeted. All her life, Bernadine put others before herself. Her greatest joy in life was her family. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and granny, she intuitively had a way to make each of us feel special and cared for. She also nurtured many deep and lasting friendships. She extended her hospitality generously and made all who visited feel right at home. She was strong in her Catholic faith and was a Daily Communicant at Mass. Praying the Rosary held a special place in her heart. For the past 30 years she battled the progressive symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Her determined yet selfless approach to the illness was an example for all who met her to reflect upon. She enjoyed 65 years of a loving marriage with Ray before his passing. She is also preceded in death by her infant brother Ivan. She leaves behind her brother Elwood (Cherie), and sons Doug (Cheryl), Don (Sue), Lowell (Betty), and daughter Mary (Steve), along with 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family is deeply grateful to her faithful caregivers, Marie, Carol, Jeff and Kathie. They were steadfastly dedicated to care for and support Bernadine, allowing her to live a life fulfilled despite her physical disability. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Madrone Hospice who were able to care for Bernadine on her final path as she transitioned from this earthly life to that which is eternal. A Rosary will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Friday October 23, at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the church on Saturday, October 24, at 10 a.m. Burial at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery will take place immediately thereafter. Current COVID-19 guidelines will be followed with facial coverings, social distancing, and indoor capacity of no more than 50%. A celebration of life event will take place at a future date.
