Charles Cecil Cyrus

Charles Cecil Cyrus went to “Dwell in the House of the Lord Forever” on Friday, January 18, 2013. He was born on August 2, 1931 in Flatwoods, Kentucky to Lindsey and Verlina Adeline Cyrus. He was born into a family with 5 sisters, Olva, Mary, Mollie Sue, Sara, and Nancy and one brother, Lindsey Ladon with Ronald to follow as a younger brother. Nancy and Ladon are surviving siblings. Charles went to Russell High School where he enjoyed playing in the marching band. Right after high school (and packed full of bananas to make weight) he enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. Being stationed in Germany for 3 years brought many fond memories and amazing stories. He developed a love and respect for other countries and their people. He served until 1954 when he was honorably discharged for medical reasons. After military, he attended USC to become a teacher. He was bias to the USC college football team and followed their stats through his life. Charles went home to Kentucky for a visit and on his 28 birthday married Carole Estep and together made the Los Angeles area home and began their family. Their children are Eldon Lindsey and Verlyne Adehl. After working in the school system for 17 years and their children grown, he decided to take his family to a smaller area in the country. They moved to Grass Valley and later to Yreka to manage the local Best Western Miners Inn until they retired in 2004. Charles’ greatest joys were watching his grandchildren at baseball, soccer, football, track and endless other school events and functions. He helped with his son-in-laws’ business in every way possible. His love of the Lord, and His Word, was his greatest passion, often quoting King David “Surely Goodness and Mercy Shall Follow Me All the Days of My Life, and I Shall Dwell In the House of the Lord Forever” 23rd Psalm. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carole; son, Eldon and daughter-in-law, Kris and their children, Samantha and Kalvin Cyrus and his daughter Adehl and son-in-law Allen and their children, Alex, Timmothy, Joseph and Trinda Williams as well as the entire Cyrus family and many friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Girdner Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am followed by a military burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
