David Lee Hawks

David Lee Hawks went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 16, 2021 at 4:25 pm at Madrone Hospice House with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law by his side. David was born on December 27, 1943 to Henry and Pearl Hawks in Goodland, Kansas. David married his high school sweetheart Lynda Harper Hawks on June 18, 1961. They celebrated 60 wonderful years in June of 2021. To that union one daughter was born, Lori Lynn Orr. David loved children and was always happy to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to travel and visit his family and friends. David was a hard worker. He started working when he was 12 years old, setting pins at a bowling alley in Goodland, Kansas. He worked in a furniture store through high school laying tile, vinyl, and carpet. During college in Manhattan, Kansas he worked in a paint store replacing glass and screens and was a research assistant at Kansas State University as well. He also laid his own tile. David was in ROTC for 2 years. He earned his BS degree in Engineering from Kansas State University. After college, he went to work for General Electric in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and received his masters degree from University of Pennsylvania. David then went to work for IBM moving the family to Boulder, Colorado, Tuscon, Arizona, and Morgan Hill, California. After working 38 years for IBM and Hitachi, they moved to Yreka. He worked for the county for almost 14 years. David is survived by his wife Lynda Hawks, daughter Lori (Duane) Orr of Yreka and 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; Morgan (Trevor) Atchley, Braedyn and Parker of Redmond, Oregon; Jenna (Andrew)Fillmore of Tracy; Krista Whitney of Apple Valley; Anthony and James Orr of Yreka. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Bevier of Prarie Grove, Arkansas; 2 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law. Preceding him in death are his parents, Henry and Pearl Hawks; his brother and sister-in-law, Rich (Lois) Hawks; a sister, Beverly Hurd; 2 infant brothers; and many nieces and nephews. David loved his Lord and lived a life that proved it everyday. His goal was to meet his Lord, Jesus Christ, and he did just that on December 16, 2021. A memorial service is being planned for February 5, 2022 at Covenant Chapel Church in Yreka at 10:30am.
