Dennis William Donnelly

With heavy hearts we would like to inform you that Dennis William Donnelly, 72, passed away on June 1, 2019 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, ICU lovingly surrounded by his family. Dennis was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on May 29, 2019 near Ashland, Oregon. It is believed that Dennis suffered some form of medical complication leading to this accident, but the medical cause may never be known. Dennis was born on December 24, 1946 in Coos Bay, Oregon to Dorothy and Donald Donnelly. He was the 2nd of 6 children. He was raised in his hometown, attending both grade school and high school, graduating with the North Bend High School class of 1965. He was drafted from 1967- 1968 and proudly served our country with the United States Army in Vietnam. Upon his discharge, Dennis used his GI bill and attended Southern Oregon University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting. During college, Dennis reunited with his high school classmate, Lynn Fosjord, and they married in September 1969. Shortly following his college graduation, they moved to Eugene, OR where Dennis obtained his CPA license and worked for Coopers & Lybrand. In 1974, Dennis and Lynn welcomed their only son, Kevin William Donnelly. Dennis was extremely proud to become a father and took great pride in Kevin. Shortly after Kevin’s birth, Lynn and Dennis divorced, and Dennis relocated to Medford to work for Medco as a CPA. In Medford, Dennis met Cheryl Foster and the couple dated for many years, eventually marrying at their home in Medford, OR on June 27, 1981. Dennis left his employment with Medco and joined Dan Kosmatka, where they formed Kosmatka Donnelly CPAs, a public accounting firm. He was a partner at KDCO for nearly 40 years and was recognized by the AICPA and OSCPA for maintaining his CPA license for over 40 years. Dennis served as Treasurer of the Southern Oregon Regional Development Board (SOREDI) for many years. He was also a member of the Oregon State Board of Accountancy. Dennis was an avid Oregon Ducks fan, and became even more of a fan and proud Ducks Dad when Kevin attended college there. Kevin married his wife, Julie, in 2000 and later added Hazel and Soren to the family. These two grandchildren captivated the love of both Dennis and Cheryl! In his free time, Dennis enjoyed cars, golfing, riding ATV’s, playing tennis, and traveling. He scheduled many vacations around time he could spend with his son, and found ways to combine his continuing education courses with fun locations as mini vacations for the family. A special spot for Cheryl and Dennis was Cancun, Mexico, and they enjoyed many trips there with close friends and family. He enjoyed golf games where he and his buddies would tease one another and just enjoy the day together. Dennis was not all fun and games, though…he also could be a serious man and had a stubborn streak, but he was an extremely loyal friend with a generous heart. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Donald; his brother-in-law, Kirk Morey, and his sister, Karen Morey. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy; his wife, Cheryl; his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Julie Donnelly; his sister and partner, Sue Donnelly and Dale Heide; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Beau Fong; his brother, Mike and Melinda Donnelly; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Craig Stephens, and his grandchildren, Hazel & Soren Donnelly. Plus numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis’s wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest at the Bogus Creek Ranch, his grandchildren’s most loved location and place to visit! A celebration of life for Dennis will be held at Paschal Winery & Vineyard, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent, Oregon on June 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
