Dorothy Lou Leinen

On August 31, 2014, while surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy Lou Leinen, age 84, was lifted into Heaven by God’s loving hands and warm embrace. Dorothy was born in Hollister, California on August 11, 1930 to Louis Sciocchetti and Vida Williams Sciocchetti. Known for her love of people and good conversation, Dorothy endeared herself to many. Her early years in Hollister began with a creative zeal and love of the arts, as evidenced by her studies at the Oakland Art Institute. A woman of untold talents, Dorothy had many loves: her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her dearest family and friends, her lovely rose gardens, her birds (especially her little hummingbirds), her books, toast and jam, trips to faraway places and the arts and music of all sorts. Her beautiful God given talent at the piano was enjoyed by all who knew her, and this “gift” was shared with her church, schools, rest homes and any and all who enlisted her amazing ability to light up any room with her joyous music. Dorothy was predeceased in death by her loving husbands, Joseph Fitzpatrick (1968) and Raymond Leinen (1989), her parents, Louis and Vida and her brother, Donald Sciocchetti. She is survived by her sister Kay Livingston (Jim) and brother, Alan Sciocchetti. Dorothy is also survived by her six children: John (Cathy) Fitzpatrick, Nora (John) Kellogg, Stacie (Gary) Heistermann, Lisa (Chip) Woodard, Mary (Fred) Holley, Marti (Ken) Anderson, as well as her five step-children: Rosalyn (Don) Hefley, Craig (Annette) Leinen, Maureen (Tom) Burd, Jeff Leinen and Raymond Leinen. In addition to her children, Dorothy leaves behind her “little loves”, her 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren: Chad (Julie), Amy (Brad), Ryan, Drew, Brittany, Dan (Mallery), Kyle, Joe, Scott (Meg), Garrett (Katie), Sean, Zach, Herbie, Grant, Chase, Blake, Carly Ray, Kylie Joe, Mason, Cole, Paige and baby Alexandra Grace. Dorothy was deeply loved and cherished by the countless people who were blessed to cross paths with her. We feel comforted to know she is starting her heavenly rose garden and “chatting up a storm” with “all” in the very presence of our Lord. A Catholic mass and celebration of her beautiful life is planned for a future date in Southern California.
