Douglas Arthur Caskey

Douglas Arthur Caskey October 11, 1943 - August 7, 2011 Doug was born to Arthur and Juanita Caskey in Albany, before moving to Concord as a young man. He attended Mt. Diablo High School and was active in “Block D” as well as being a starathlete on both the track and swim teams. After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served as a Psych Medic for four years. Doug attended college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He was a programmer in South Carolina for twenty years before being reunited with his high school sweetheart,JoAnn, whom he married in 1993. In 1996, the call of the great outdoors was too much and they headed to Mt. Shasta, where together they built their dream home in the mountains. Doug was a trusted and loyal friend. He loved square dancing with the Dudes and Daisies and his association with Son’s in Retirement. He was a dedicated servant to the Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta Auxiliary and traveled many miles assisting those less fortunate than him. He was instrumental in processing the Auxiliaries treasurer’s job from hand work to computer input. He then became the Auxiliary Treasurer for many years. Doug found his greatest pleasure in the simple things of life: a fish on the line; a garden in bloom; a meal shared with friends; an evening of dancing; a good book; and most especially, the laughter of his grandchildren. Doug had a sense of adventure and learned to ski at the age of 50. He enjoyed a good laugh and a practical joke. His eyes twinkled and crinkled when he thought he was funny, which was often. Doug will be missed by many. Doug leaves behind his beloved wife, JoAnn; two children, son, Brian and wife, Jennifer Caskey of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Kelly and Duane Steinhoff of Lexington, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; three siblings, Beverly Towrey of Granbury, Texas, Gregory Caskey of Martinez, and Debbie Browneof Blythewood, South Carolina, and friends too numerous to count. A celebration of Doug’s life is planned for 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Seventeen Hundred Everett Memorial Highway, Mt. Shasta, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Doug may be made to Mercy Hospice Mt. Shasta, 914 Pine Street, Mt. Shasta, CA, 96067, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. Girdner Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
