Dwight M. Cook

Dwight M. Cook went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2011 at the age of 86. After a short battle with cancer, he passed away at home surrounded by his wife and children and visited by his brothers and friends. Dwight grew up in Ontario, attended Chaffey High School and, after serving his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII, moved back to Ontario where he got a job as a groundsman with Southern California Edison. He was with SCE for 36 years and retired as a Planning Manager. In 1950 he got extremely lucky and married Elise, the cutest girl he ever dated. They built a home in Ontario in September of 1956. He was truly a “family” man and greatly enjoyed the company of his wife, kids, his brothers; Walt, Jack, and Rodney, his sister in-law and brother-in law, Doris and Bob as well as his school friends, Leroy , David, Maurice, Chuck and Don along with many other friends. He was very proud of the accomplishments of this children and grandkids. At the age of 22 (1947), he backpacked into the Ansel Adams Wilderness and began a lifelong love of backpacking. Dwight backpacked well into his 70's and then continued camping in the same area into his 80's. After retiring he found that he enjoyed bicycling, and cycled with Elise in several countries as well as in the US with his high school friends and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He set a very high standard for his family and he will be sorely missed He is survived by Elise, his wife of 61 years; 4 children, Micheal Cook, of Oak Hills, CA, David Cook (Nancy) of Oak Hills, CA, Claudia Cook of Ontario,CA, and Jim Cook (Ann) Shasta Valley, CA; 5 grandchildren, Ben Cook of St.Paul, MN, William Cook of Wageningen, NL, Kevin Cook of Oak Hills, CA, Roosevelt Cook of Oak Hills, CA, Madelyn Cook of Oak Hills, CA and Sadie Cook of Oak Hills, CA. Graveside services were held at Bellevue Cemetery on Saturday the 19th of November at 9:30am. A Memorial Service followed at 11:00 am at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ontario,CA.
