Franklin "Frank" Hoag

Frank was born in Spokane, Washington to Don and Marion Joan (Annie) Hoag on September 2, 1953. With a short battle with cancer, Frank left us on January 6, 2012 at the Madrone Hospice House. Even though he was born in Washington, Frank, affectionately known as Moose to those close to him, grew up in Orange, California. He played football in elementary school and enjoyed watching the Rams’ summer practice at Chapman College. He also spent many summers at June Lake. He liked to fish, camp, and spend time with his family. Frank was an avid music lover and was able to see many of his favorite artists in concert. He always had amusing stories that went with each show. His favorite artists were Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Rolling Stones, and the Who. He also had a life-long love of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team. He was able to attend their first Stanley Cup Finals game at the Los Angeles Forum. When Frank was 24 he moved to Siskiyou County where he found work at the City of Montague. He loved his work and was a member of the City of Montague team until he passed away. His contributions to the city’s infrastructure will always be remembered. Kathleen Marie Evans was introduced to him by her mother as her brother’s best friend. In 1984, he married Kat in Las Vegas, and they made their home in Yreka, California. Together they had two beautiful children, Ashley Jene in 1986 and William Vernon in 1988. Being a family man, music connoisseur, and hockey fan was not enough for him. Frank also loved to play poker. Sit down with him at a Texas Hold ‘em table and you were bound to lose your money. He played every chance he could. Frank is survived by his father Don Hoag of Yreka, California; his wife Kat Hoag of Yreka, California; his children Ashley (Michael) Sherman of Weed, California and William (McKenzie Bailey) Hoag of Minot, North Dakota; his grandchildren whom he adored as their Pop Pops, Ahva Kamine and Cadin Lamar Sherman; his brothers and sisters Chandra (Walt) West of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Tom (Phyllis) Hoag of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Debbie Hoag of Montague, and Tim Hoag of Yreka. Moose also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and a great nephew. He will be missed by not only his family, but those who got to know him both professionally and personally. The Moose now has taken over as the man in the moon. Every night we see you in Luna and know you are okay. We love you Pops! A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Montague Community Hall. Girdner’s Funeral Chapel is handling all arrangements for Frank and his family. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Montague City Pool, Montague Rotary and/or Madrone Hospice House.
