Geraldine Bernice Facey

Geraldine Bernice Facey, 89, passed away on Friday November 13, 2015 in Medford, Oregon with her family by her side. Jerry was born on October 31, 1926 in Yreka. She was the daughter of Sam Potter and Bernice Werth Potter. Her father was a very talented carpenter/ building contractor who built hundreds of homes and commercial buildings around Siskiyou County. He was also a teacher at Etna High School. She had a brother, Robert, who was a pilot in the Air Force. He died in the Korean War at the young age of 23. Jerry married the boy next door, Festus Facey, on March 28, 1945. He was in the Navy at the time, and lied about his age so that they could marry. In September 1945 her first home was built in Etna out of cement block. Fess, Jerry and her father made every block and stacked them by hand. She gave birth to her first child, Samuel Gerald Facey, on October 26, 1946. Their second child, Darena May followed on July 5, 1948. Next, Trudy Ellen on November 4, 1950, then Terry Robert on November 9, 1955. She gave birth to her fifth and final child, Laurie Ann on April 18, 1957. Jerry loved her children, and would have had more if Fess would have agreed. In 1962, Jerry, Fess, her father, and son Sam built their forever home on Woodland Street in Etna. She worked on the house during the day, and her husband worked on it after work and on weekends. Jerry loved to play cards with her family, can goods, bake, play in her pool, and help her husband in his butcher shop. She was a member of Clipper Club, Valley Oaks Seniors, Top of the State Garden Club, Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star and Council member of Job’s Daughters. She taught 4-H cooking and sewing for 30 years and had a Cub Scout troop. She enjoyed spending time in her yard with her flowers, tatting, crocheting, and quilting. Most of all she loved her family and her Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Fess, daughter Darena, and great granddaughter Lee Ann. Survivors include her children Sam, of Etna. Trudy Weldon and her husband Cody, of Yreka. Terry of Redding, and Laurie and her husband Gary Sweezey of Etna. Her grandchildren Tammy and husband Mike Luiz, Jacki Zediker, Vicki Zediker, David Michaels and wife Desiree, Melody Weldon, Steven Facey and wife Heather, Falane Gerritson and husband Michael, Monica Hall and husband Frank, and Kristy Sweezey. Her great grandchildren Dusti and Haley Luiz, Callie Zediker, Elizabeth Callender, Melissa and Gina Michaels, Anthony and Jeannette Gerritsen, and Hunter and Scout Hall. Baby Jaxson is soon to arrive. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday November 20, 2015 at the Etna United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Etna Cemetery.
