Gordon Wesley "Gordy" Breceda

Lifelong Siskiyou County resident, Gordon Wesley “Gordy” Breceda, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at his home in Yreka. Gordy was born October 1, 1958 to Victor “Gene” and Wilma (now deceased) Breceda in Ashland, Oregon. Gene married Suzanne (Martelle) Breceda in 1969, and Suzanne adopted Gordy and his brother, Larry (now deceased). Gordy was raised in Montague, where he learned his work ethic and participated in the local rodeo scene, FFA, and sports in school. He was a member of the Montague Junior Rodeo and parade, a member of the Shasta Valley Pony Club, and rode Broncs for years at rodeos. In his tenure at Yreka High School, he participated in FFA, where he raised sheep and heifers. He was a 4-year Cross Country and Track athlete at YHS, and he even won the NAL title in Cross Country as a freshman! Gordy worked for over twenty years for Mountain Ready Mix, driving cement trucks. He earned a reputation as a hard worker and excellent driver, achieving their employee of the month many times and becoming their longest tenured employee. Mountain Ready Mix recalls Gordy as being “remembered for his goofy personality, good humor, unforgettable smile, and the dedication he gave to both his family and his work. Gordy was one of those guys who would work until he simply couldn’t anymore.” He was loyal and hardworking. In the off-season from cement truck driving, Gordy would cut firewood and spend as much time as possible in the woods. He was a true backwoods hunter through and through, always scouting and always on the lookout for a big buck. He and his family spent many days cutting firewood, scouting for deer, and stopping by Mount Hebron general store for ribs on their way home. Gordy was stubborn, happy, funny, and easy to make smile. He could never stay in a bad mood for long. Gordon is survived by his son, Dustin “Dusty” Breceda of Yreka; his long-time partner, Cindy Copeland and her daughters, who he thought of as his own: Jacqueline, Rachel (Justin), and Meranda (Zack); his mother, Suzanne Breceda of Montague; a brother, Milton; a granddaughter, Freyja, who was the light of his life; and his “step” grandchildren, Dalton (Lauren), Brodi, Jordan, and Atlee. Gordy is also survived by his Aunt Julie and Uncle Tom, of Minnesota, who supported Gordy throughout his life, and by numerous cousins, including Ann and Jerry Newcomer of Redding. A memorial celebration of life will be held for Gordy at the Big Springs Community Church on Sunday, August 30 at 1:00 p.m., with a potluck to follow. All who knew him are welcome to join and are asked to bring their best stories, and a side dish or dessert to share. Gordy will be laid to rest in the family plot in Hornbrook Cemetery. Girdner Funeral Chapel is assisting the family during this challenging season.
