Inez Laverne Rainey

Inez Laverne Rainey passed away in her home March 23, 2013 after a long illness. Inez was born the 5th child to Annie and James Milne up Mill Creek near Scott Bar on June 15, 1931. She attended the school in Scott Bar that now serves as a community center. She went on to Yreka High School to finish her schooling and during that time, she met the love of her life Robert Rainey from Horse Creek. On July 3, 1948, they were married and together they raised their family of 4 children on the family ranch. When Inez was a small child she attended a dance with her parents and she saw this handsome man who she said she would marry someday. She fell asleep on a bench that night but later in life she did marry that man. Inez and Bob worked hard together to build the ranch. Inez worked alongside her husband in the Siskiyou Mountains, riding for cattle and working in the hay fields. Inez could throw a bale of hay as well as any man and had the muscles to prove it. Inez worked for the Klamath River Elementary school from January 1968 to July 1999 as a custodian and bus driver. She was known as being a tough lady on the school bus and she wasn’t one to be taken advantage of. Inez loved her children and many grandchildren and wanted the best for them and their families. Her memory lives on with us in many ways and her way of life will continue to grow on in her family. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Twidwell, her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Trudy Rainey, all of Horse Creek; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Larry Reid of Kelseyville, CA; her daughter, Linda Hager and fiancé, Jerry Isbell, of Montague; grandchildren, Stacey Willison, Jennifer Underwood, Laura Crowder, Charles Rainey, Casey Rainey, Melinda Rainey, Christy Zimmerman, Jonathan Reid , Richard Hager Jr., Jody Cornilsen; 12 great grandchildren and her brother, Floyd Milne of Grenada. Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents James and Annie Milne; her sisters, Margaret Day and Dorothy Robinson; her brother, William Milne and a great grandson, Christopher Lopez. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Horse Creek Community Church, with Pastor Mike Close officiating. A graveside service is planned at Scott Bar Cemetery, with a celebration of life at Scott Bar Community Hall following the church service.
