Services for Modoc County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jack Lanceson Hopkins, will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds located at 1712 Fairlane Rd., Yreka, CA 96097. Deputy Jack Hopkins, aged 31 was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016. Jack was born in Livermore, California, on August 16th, 1985. He was named after his grandfather, Jack L. Hopkins, who was the first mayor of Rolling Hills Estates, California. Jack was raised on a cattle ranch in the rural Shasta Valley and baptized in the Shasta River. Jack was a well-mannered child and did not need or want for much. He was a humble young man who would always help a stranger in need and was known for putting others before himself. Jack learned a great deal of discipline and respect from Mitch Klier, of Klier’s Martial Arts (formerly known as Jodan Karate). Jack earned a black belt in karate and won a World Championship karate title in 2001. Jack was known for being the type of person that his handshake was his “word” and it was reliable. Jack has always been a happy, good natured guy with a great personality; he had a big smile and laughed often. He is known for his uncanny wit, loyalty, big heart, and undefeatable sense of humor. Jack was an amazing friend to so many people who could count on him to talk, give advice, or just be there to help pick up the pieces. He has always been passionate about helping people, which is one of the reasons Jack loved being in law enforcement. Aside from loving his job, Jack also loved music, dancing, fishing, the great outdoors, playing poker, Japanese cultural studies, and nature hikes with his dog, Bandit. Jack loved his family deeply. Jack was also a proud member of the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma. He was a loving son, great brother, and an even more amazing uncle. He will be tremendously missed. Jack attended Grenada and Big Springs Elementary schools. He graduated from Yreka High School in 2004 and went on to pursue multiple Associated Arts degrees at Butte Community College. He returned to Butte College to attend the Police Academy with his older brother, Officer Sam Hopkins, and graduated 2013. Jack began his law enforcement career with the Alturas Police Department and transferred to the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office, where he ended his watch. Jack is survived by: Lance Jackson Hopkins, father; Carroll Roebuck Hopkins, mother, Twila Evey Hopkins, grandmother; Officer Samuel Hopkins, brother, wife, Janet, children Hunter, Hailey, and Hudson; Christina Mokrane, sister, husband Adel and two children; Amanda Hopkins Taylor, sister, husband Josh Taylor; David Cooksey, brother; Josh Hopkins, brother, wife, Faina Hopkins and child Oliver; Rebekah Hopkins, sister; a large extended family and Bandit, the dog he rescued and loved.
