Janet Lyn Emerson

Janet was born on May 7, 1951 in Dunsmuir, CA to Ted and Marjorie Schuler, and passed away on August 21, 2012 in Mt. Shasta, CA. Janet was a direct descendent of the McIntosh family of Bartle, CA and grew up in Diamond Springs, CA. During high school in Placerville, CA she was a member of the Future Farmers of America and the 4-H Program raising horses and cattle and was a cheerleader, basketball and volleyball player. During summer vacations she worked at Twin Lakes Resort in Twin Lakes, CA. After graduating she worked and attended classes in Sacramento. Janet then moved to Dana, CA to live with her Uncle Charlie and Aunt Mary and work at their business in McArthur, CA. It was there she met and married the father of her two children, Michael and Michelle. Janet then moved to the Redding, CA area to raise her children. She was a school volunteer, Girl Scout Leader and graduated from a cake decorating school. Janet divorced in 1980, started a day care business from her home and continued to bake and decorate cakes in order to support her and her children. In 1983 she began working for Mallery’s Florist in Redding and became a floral designer. In 1986 she moved to Mt. Shasta to improve the living environment and educational opportunities for Michael and Michelle. After working at the Mt. Shasta Nursery and My Favorite Things as a floral designer, in 1989 she took her passion for crafts and flowers and opened her own shop “Country Florist”. In 1991 she met and married her husband of 21 years Jim Emerson and by 1994 closed Country Florist to work with her him to attain a life-long goal of building a home and owning a ranch. In 1998 they sold their home in Mt. Shasta, purchased 40 acres in Shasta Valley, built a new home and together created a small cow/calf operation with irrigated pasture, corrals, fruit trees, gardens and a full complement of ranch equipment. Janet had a passion for the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, camping, fishing, hiking and just being surrounded by nature’s beauty. She passed this enjoyment on to her children and grandchildren. Janet is survived by her husband, Jim Emerson; her children, Michael and Michelle; her grandchildren, Ashton, Aden, Ryleigh, Emberlee and Kahlia and her siblings, Wayne Cooper, Eileen Stevenson, and Marjorie Ann Schuler. She will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her. Per her wishes, no services are planned. Donations in her honor can be made to Mercy Medical Center, 914 Pine Street, Mt. Shasta, CA.
