Janice Arlene Anderson

Janice Arlene Anderson left this earth on December 26, 2025 at the Madrone Hospice House due to kidney failure, and she passed peacefully in her sleep. She was 80 years old. Jan was born to Tom and Ruby Desoza on December 20, 1945 in Yreka. She grew up on the family ranch at the end of Desoza Lane outside of Grenada, helping her parents work the ranch. She was very active in 4-H and competed in 4-H competitions at local and state levels. Jan attended Grenada Elementary School and Yreka High School, graduating with the class of '64. After graduation, she attended Redding Beauty College and received her cosmetology license. Her first job was at Haydens Beauty Salon on Broadway Street in Yreka. She worked her adult life working at various salons in Yreka, and owned her own salon, "The Victorian Hair Salon." While in high school Jan discovered her love of arts and crafts. She devoted much of her spare time making craft items for friends and family and selling them in gift shops. She loved Christmas. She loved to decorate and made many of her own ornaments. She also loved to play the role of Mrs. Claus at Yreka's annual holiday parade. After retirement she joined the Fairchild Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed working at the front desk in the lobby meeting old friends and helping people with questions. While with the Auxiliary she and Judy Baker decorated the lobby's Christmas tree. Most of the decorations on the tree were handmade by Jan. She loved kids. While her own children were in school, it was not uncommon to have extras at dinner, provide rides to ball games, take kids to the coast and whatever else was needed. She also helped many young ladies plan and decorate for their weddings and receptions. She was always willing to help any kid that was having life problems. Jan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gary; daughter Julie (Brian); son Eric (Jessica); grandchildren Michaela, Jacob, Trent, Kaitlyn, Zane and Danika; her sister, Donna Soares of Gridley; and her yellow lab, Zoe. Jan lost her other sister, Evelyn Bontrager, in 2014. A Celebration of Life is planned for May 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka, with a luncheon to follow at the Yreka Elks Lodge. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff and nurses at Madrone Hospice during this difficult time.
