Jennet Elizabeth Broce

Lifelong Siskiyou County resident, Jennet Elizabeth Broce, passed away on July 4, 2022 at the Madrone Hospice House. She was 100 years old, and she remained spunky, witty, and sharp up until the end. Jennet was born on January 2, 1922 in Medford, Oregon to Fern Walker Thomas and Geneva (Young) Thomas. She grew up in Yreka, a graduate of Yreka High School Class of 1940. She married Wallace Broce on August 19, 1940. The couple raised four children: Garry, Tom, Robin, and Ronald. Jennet was the quintessential home maker. She practically built their home and everything around it. She was an excellent flower gardener. She loved to square dance and travel. Jennet was even featured in a square dance review in Mexico at the age of 80! Jennet and Wallace traveled extensively in their RV, but they made Mexico their second home when they became snow birds in San Carlos each winter. Jennet continued to make the trip to Mexico after Wallace's passing. She was a renowned card shark in her community there, where she loved to cook everybody tacos, and proceed to beat them all at games of 31 or Hand and Foot. She made almost weekly trips to the local casino during her time in Mexico. If not at home or in Mexico, Jennet could often be found at their family cabin at Kelsey Creek - a location where many family memories were made throughout the decades! Jennet was a force of nature, and not one to be reckoned with. She had a memory like a steel trap, and could tell stories from years ago with precision accuracy. She will be greatly missed by all she knew. JJennet was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, who passed away in 1994. She is survived by her children: Garry, Tom, Robin, and Ronald. Jennet had 64 grandchildren including great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren all of whom loved her dearly. Jennet will be laid to rest in Hornbrook Cemetery next to Wallace. Family and friends are welcome at Jennets home at 913 Oak St. at 3 PM on July 17th to share memories and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jennet's name to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
