John Lewis Foulke

John Lewis Foulke, Senior 77, passed away at his residence on February 21, 2022, with his daughter by his side. John was the son of Robert and Ann (McNutt) Foulke and was born on January 20, 1945 in Yreka. John is survived by his brother Peter Foulke and his two sisters Nina Burnham and Sara Mascovich. John loved his family dearly and will be missed greatly by his sons Robert, John, Lewis, Michael, Chris, his daughter Lanay, all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John served six years in the United States Army over in Germany and was a mechanic all his life. John had an incredible love, passion, and respect for Siskiyou County, and its history was of the utmost importance to him. He did all he could to help preserve the historical legacy of the area any chance he could. John comes from the long line of Foulke's from the Gazelle area, where his grandfather Lewis Foulke, Jr., served as President of the Siskiyou County Historical Society, and his Great-Grandfather, Lewis M. Foulke, Sr., who settled in Siskiyou in 1853 when he was 20 years old. John grew up loving the area, and it was always his dream to retire in Siskiyou County. John was a dedicated community member who served on the Historical Society's Board for the past five years and served as President of the Board since 2019. John was a "working" President and member; who would always be willing to help any time something needed repair, moved, packed, etc.; he was first in line to assist. John was also on the Board of the Cemetery District, and he served on the Board of Yreka Preservation for over 12 years. While serving on the board John played an important role in the negotiation with the Episcopal Diocese when Yreka Preservation acquired the former St. Mark's property. He also served as President of Yreka Preservation during his tenure on the board. The former St. Mark's held a special place in his heart as he attended church there while he was growing up. Some of you may remember him by his Alpaca Ranch, Critterville, in Grenada along old Highway 99. The memorial service will begin at the Foulke Cemetery located on Old Highway 99 S Gazelle, Siskiyou, California, 96034, at 1 PM PT. on March 18, 2022. Please join us for the celebration of life at the Preservation Hall located at 300 Lane Street Yreka, California, 96097, at 3 PM PT. following the service at the cemetery.
