John Huffert Rider

John H. Rider passed away peacefully at his home on December 16, 2023, at the age of 81. John was born in Yreka on February 7, 1942 to Georgia and Elmer Rider. He was raised on the Klamath River, and John always enjoyed what the river had to offer: from riding bikes with his brother to riding his beloved horses. He loved running hounds, hunting, fishing, trapping, and chasing the girls. John was part of the first group to graduate from Klamath River Union Elementary School, but he also attended Rocky Mountain, Horse Creek, and Riverside. At the age of 15, John quit school and went to work logging. He could run any piece of equipment under the sun, but his specialty was running Cat, and he was the best! He took great pride in his work, and, to our knowledge, he never missed a day of work. John loved to butcher animals, especially pigs. He shared many hunting adventures with his friend Mike Skeahan, and his life-long friend, Fred Lange, who was by his side until the very end. Known for infectious laughter and a hot temper, John had a knack for humor and an unwavering willingness to lend his helping hand. His radiant smile and loud voice filled every room, and in all of his endeavors he was the epitome of excellence.John was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Hawley and Elmer Rider; his siblings Jean Skeahan and Everson Rider; and his nephews Charlie Rider, Stacy Lange, and Randy Rider. John is survived by his sister, Merceda "Sis" Lange and brother-in-law and closest friend, Fred Lange; his children: Martin (Heather) Rider, Brenda (Mike) Morris, Sheri (Rance Martin) Rider, and Nick Rider; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; nephews Marc Skeahan, Matt Skeahan, and Denny Lange; nieces Vonnie Rider and Cindy Hayes, and by numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. John's rugged spirit touched many lives, including close friends and coworkers. May his memory live on in the hearts of the ones who knew and loved him. Last, but not least, we want to thank his life-long friend, Mary (Susie) LaMarr, his caregivers Jake McCollom and Tiffany Lange for making his final time of life so happy. A memorial service for John will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 2pm at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka.
