Joseph Shelton Walker

Joseph Shelton Walker, 78 years young, died Thursday January 26, 2012 as the result of a sudden stroke. He passed peacefully in Medford Oregon, with his family by his side. Joe was born August 8, 1933 in Altus, Oklahoma to Arlie and Mary Walker. He moved to northern California as a child and graduated from Chico High School in 1951. He worked as a banker for Crocker Bank and Wells Fargo Bank until his retirement. He was a hard worker, and liked working with his hands, he could repair or refurbish just about anything. He worked part-time at the local post office, and rode his bike to work up until the time of his death. He was also employed part time at the Grenada Water District, and a long time resident of Grenada California, and known by his family as“The Mayor”. He married his wife Elizabeth May,1978, and they celebrated thirty-three years together. They enjoyed spending time with family, traveling in their motor home and, recently, spending time on their patio boat. He is proceeded in death by his two sisters, Janette Sos, and Margaret Ercole. He is survived by his wife, four children, two step-children, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. They are his wife, Liz; daughter Vicki Willoh of Colusa: husband Matt, son Josh Fitch and family Christy, Dylan, Brittney and Cristal of Colusa, son James Boggs of Las Vegas, daughters Breana Boggs of Bend, Oregon and Lynae Lalonde and granddaughter Chanel of Colusa; son Joseph Walker of Colusa: wife Debbie, son Joey and family Claire and Elise of Lafayette, North Carolina, daughter Katy Stover and family KP and Avia of Colusa; daughter Christine Soulé of Big Springs: husband Josh, sons Mario Rizzardo and family Jessica, Cailey and Cailin of Fort Jones, Stephen Rizzardo and family Natalie, Steele Criner and twins Tanner and Sutter of Yreka, and Kyle Rizzardo and family Marissa, Klayton and Kolton of Yreka: daughter Suzanne Murphy of Roseville: son Bryant Murphy of San Diego, daughter Kaitlynn Murphy of Roseville, Kera Murphy of Sacramento, and Alissa Murphy of Chester; step-daughter Judy Brown Gardner of Citrus Heights: husband Bill; step-son Jerry Hopper of Citrus Heights: son Jerrid and Tina of Auburn, and son Josh and Sara of Prescott Valley, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka CA 96097, or to the Grenada Fire Department for the fine job they do, especially responding to medical emergencies.
