Karen Joy Currie

Karen Joy Currie, 77, died peacefully of natural causes in her Montague home on Sunday, March 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born on September 17, 1940, to Keith and June McCombs Severns on their family ranch in Montague. Karen attended Willow Creek Elementary School and Yreka High School. Karen met Sonny Currie at the Montague rodeo grounds, and they married in November 1956. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Karen worked as a bookkeeper for Littrell Auto Parts in Yreka for over 30 years. When she wasn’t working, Karen’s favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. She and Sonny kept busy raising cattle and kids, and were never left with nothing to do. Karen attended countless rodeos and sporting events to cheer on her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved to travel both near and far. A couple highlights of travel included her trips with family to the NFR in Las Vegas, Nashville, Tennessee, and the Kentucky Derby. Locally, Medicine Lake was a favorite destination, as was the R Ranch along the Klamath River and the Cooley Ranch in McCloud. A visit to Montpelier provided many great memories, and the beauty of both Wyoming and Colorado amazed her. At home, Karen kept busy baking, playing cards, gardening and crocheting. Everyone looked forward to their special Christmas treat of Karen’s famous Chex Mix. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Sonny, of Montague; her son, Smoke Currie (Vicki) of Yreka; her daughter, Troy (Sis) Baker (Ben) of Klamath Falls; son, Code Currie (Chela) of Montague; son, Shannon Currie (Shannon) of Grenada; nieces and nephews David Rose (Rita) of Montague, Diane Wheeler (Chuck) of Winslow, AZ, Dale Rose of Willits and Donya Sarti of Mt. Shasta; her grandchildren, Davery Currie, Darcy Carhill, Megan Koons, Ben (Bubba) Baker, Jr., Jordan Currie, Tyler Currie, Callie Currie, Tiffanie Lorenzini, J.D. Rose, Michele Adams, Jeff Wheeler, Rachel VanKampen and 16 great-grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and June Severns and her brother Daryl Severns. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at the Nicoletti Ranch, 1824 De Soza Lane, Montague, on April 7, 2018, at 3:00 pm.
