Leo T Bergeron

On June 14, 2024, at 4:11am, Leo "T" Bergeron went to Heaven peacefully at home with his loving wife Kathy at his side. Leo was 86 years old. We miss him. Leo was born to Joe & Maggie Bergeron on January 22, 1938, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He was the second in a family of five children. From an early age, Leo knew chores. His father had a brick yard so he also knew hard work. When he got a job in an ice cream shop, he was known to give his paycheck to his Mom to help the family. All his children know that "time to do chores call". Leo attended a Catholic school taught by nuns in French. (Bet you didn't know that one!). In high school he also attended trade school and became an accomplished upholsterer and of course was president of his class. When Leo turned 18, he had an opportunity to go to California. He jumped at the chance to become a cowboy. When he arrived in San Francisco he bought a six shooter, boots and cowboy hat. Somewhere along the way it was discovered that Leo had the ability to persuade people. That is when his insurance career started. Leo had a very successful insurance agency in the Bay area and Tracy, California and later in Medford, Oregon as well as Yreka. Leo's dream of ranching became a reality starting in Tracy, California and at one point he had a herd of 300 mother cows. He moved his herd to Shasta Valley in 1992 and it is still in operation. Leo was a leader and held many positions in the places he lived. He was a strong leader and a force for the issues he believed in. Leo served as the President of several Granges and the California State Grange. He was also a delegate to the National Grange. Leo founded the Siskiyou County Water Users Association and was fully involved in the effort to save the Klamath River Dams from influence by external entities. Leo spent a lot of time packing into the wilderness areas with his horse and friends or often alone. If you have ever sat with him, you would hear him telling stories of his adventures. Leo is survived by his wife Kathy who loved him dearly. Family was important to him, as were his precious children Joanne and Leanne, Christopher, Jaime and Matthew and little sister Liz. Leo was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, son Ronnie, brothers Joe and George, a sister Joanne. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 17, 2024, at the Big Springs Community Church, 7220 Highway A-12, Montague, CA at 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions to a favorite charity of your choice are suggested.
