Lester J Mc Conahie

Lester McConahie was born on Dec. 13, 1927 to George and Clara Huffman in Union County, S.D. Lester’s mother died shortly after giving birth. Lester’s grandmother and grandfather McConahie adopted him, giving him his mother’s maiden name of McConahie. Lester is survived by one sister Mildred Swanson of Ohio, his loving wife Stella McConahie for 60 years, and his five children, Candace Jordan of Mountain Home, Idaho; Arlen McConahie of Central Point, Ore.; Pamela Morton of Montague; Peggy Scott of Grenada; and David McConahie of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by two brothers, his father, his mother, his grandson and his son-in-law. Lester served his country in the Navy. After the military, he worked heavy equipment, building roads in Iowa before moving to California. Lester married the love of his life, Stella Onnen, on April 30,1950 in Sioux City, Iowa. Then, after having four children with one on the way, Les and Stella decided to be adventurous and move to Yreka in 1960 from Sioux City, Iowa. Shortly after moving here they had their fifth child. Here, Lester was a hard-working man, sometimes working two to three jobs to care for his family. Lester worked for the Siskiyou Daily News for 12 years, then other jobs at Lake Shastina, Montague Elementary School, Nor-Cal Products and Ridal Corp. Lester dedicated his life to raising his family. Lester was a good friend to all who entered his life. Our father was a quiet man, again father of five, grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 17. Lester was a hunter and fisherman. He loved the little railroad cars, loved old cars and loved to take us all out camping. Lester was truly loved and cherished by all of his family and friends. Lester was always here for us when we needed his guidance. We could not have asked for a better father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all. With family members there by his side, he peacefully left this world to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 8:17 p.m. at Madrone Hospice, with the wonderful staff making sure that Lester was comfortable in his final days. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the First Southern Baptist Church at 921 S. Oregon St. in Yreka
