Mary Frances Morton

Lifelong Siskiyou County Resident, Mary Frances Morton passed away on Sunday December 6th, 2020 with family by her side, at the age of 93. Frances was born on May 30, 1927 in Noti, Lane County, Oregon, to Roy and Mabel Frost. She was the fourth of nine children. At the age of six, they moved to Yreka, California just north of what's now the Scott Valley Bank. She attended Yreka schools and completed through her sophomore year of high school. At the age of 17, on July 29, 1944 she married Claude Morton of Montague. They moved out to what's formerly known as Coyote Corners, across from where Claude grew up, and worked at the Morton Brothers Ranch. Over the next six years they had three children; Tom, Tim and Tony. In 1951, they moved to Montague when her husbands' parents sold their ranch, and he went to work for the county road department. Frances was a homemaker that loved her family unconditionally. She enjoyed spending time with anyone who stopped in to visit and most importantly any family function where everyone was welcomed. She especially loved to spend time with her husband and children hunting, camping, fishing, trapping and trips to the coast; she always pulled the trailer! If it was outdoors, she was right there along with them. Frances volunteered 45 years of service to the Hospice Shop. She was also a member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft as well as the Hope Rebecca Lodge No. 33. She had a passion for sewing and would make formal dresses for her fellow lodge members. Frances was very passionate for the Lord, and attended the Gazelle Community Church for many years. She enjoyed being able to visit and loved her extended church family entirely. Frances is pre-deceased by parents, Roy and Mabel, husband Claude, sons Tom and Tim, sisters Margie Callahan, Rose Brown and Ida Peer, brothers Wayne, Bill and Jim. Frances is survived by her son, Tony Morton of Montague; brothers Gene Frost (Shirley) and Cecil Frost (Diane); grandchildren Donna Morton and Thomas Michael Morton, Jesse Morton (Nadia), Darik Morton and Jennifer Garcia (Carlos); great grandchildren Elizabeth Clark (David), Holly Morton, Trinity Garcia, Briley and Bret Keele; great great-grandchildren Benjamin and Noah Clark, along with many, many other extended family members. Frances had a heart of gold for all who were fortunate enough to have known her and would always have a kind word to say. Her smile and laugh shall forever stay in our hearts, and her words of wisdom guide those she was able to touch. She will be truly missed by family and friends and loved forever in our memories. A very special thank you to the staff at Madrone Hospice for being so compassionate and kind. In lieu of flowers, any contributions to Madrone Hospice would be welcomed. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka.
