Phyllis Jeanne Austin

Loved ones surrounded Phyllis Jeanne Austin, of Lake Shastina California, as she left us peacefully on September 10th, 2017. She was 78. A third generation Californian, Phyllis Jeanne Penner was born to Dr. Orlando William Jacob Penner and Marvel Marjorie Kuhn in Los Angeles, California on August 8th 1939. She has three siblings, Sonnie Chilson, Michele Penner and Steve Penner. Phyllis went to High School at Loma Linda Academy and then attended San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino California. Growing up, Phyllis loved listening to Patsy Cline and had a passion for dancing. She met the love of her life, Robert L. Austin in Loma Linda, California and the couple fell deeply in love soon after. They were married on July 2nd 1957, and had three children, Daran, Karan and Connie. Daran Austin and his wife Cindy Austin have three children, Tonya McVae, Jacob Austin, and Kimberly Austin. Karan Gordon has four children, Nicholas Morris, Logan Morris, Kyle Morris, and Desiree Jackson. Connie Austin King has two daughters, Crystal Hardin and Marilynn Arnberg. Spending time with her family, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren brought her a tremendous amount of joy. She cherished every moment she spent with Lily, Layla, Lauren, Hannah, Acacia, Liam, Jaylynn, Nayeli, Atiyeh, NyAsha, and Leita. During their 48 years of marriage, Phyllis and Bob loved to go out dancing together. It was by far their favorite past time and they were darn good at it too! They also enjoyed spending time with their family, traveling and camping along the California Coast. One of their favorite trips together was fondly called their “Trip of a Lifetime” where they traveled across the country to Tennessee. After many wonderful years together, Phyllis lost her husband Bob on November 10th 2005. Phyllis, a Real Estate Partner and Owner of Century 21 Real Estate in Yreka, moved to Siskiyou County in 1980. She loved her community and all of the amazing friends she made while living and working here. In recent years, Phyllis lived in Lake Shastina with Eugene Long and they enjoyed tending to their vegetable garden together. Phyllis was honored to have volunteered her time at the Fairchild Medical Center Hospital and at the Church of Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Austin, her grandson Logan Morris, Son-in-Law John Arnberg, and her son, Daran Austin. Services will be presided by Jon Fitzpatrick and held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 23rd 2017 at the Church of Nazarene, located at 415 Evergreen Lane Yreka, California 96097. Close friends and family of Phyllis are invited to join us at 3:00pm for the procession to the Henley-Hornbrook Cemetery for a graveside service. The cemetery is located at 15123 Oregon Rd.
