Richard "Rick" Haas

Richard "Rick" C. Haas, of Yreka, CA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 while surrounded by loved ones, following a short illness. He was 59 years old. Rick was born in Torrance, CA on September 4th, 1952 to Robert and Jean Haas. After graduating from Torrance High School, he followed family members up to Siskiyou County where he met his first wife, Linda Graves. They married in 1972 and had a son, Richard Thomas and daughter, Christina Renee. He served two years in the army and was stationed in Germany from 1971-1973. Rick was one of the most loved mail carriers in Yreka and worked for the post office for 30 years, retiring in 2008. Despite his love for dogs, he set a record at the post office with 32 dog bites. He was very devoted to his job and went about it with duty, pride and honor. He took the motto, "Neither snow, nor rain, nor hail, nor sleet, (nor dog bites) shall keep the postman from his appointed rounds" very seriously. During his life, Rick found happiness and solace while spending time in the mountains. He enjoyed hunting ducks and "mossback" deer and fishing along the beautiful lakes and rivers of Siskiyou County. He also enjoyed agate hunting, listening to music and riding quads along the Oregon coast. He will be remembered by loved ones as a generous, kind person who had a very honest sense of humor. His physical strength, athleticism and ability to come up with the perfect nick names for others was admired by many. Rick was preceded in death by both his mother, Jean and father, Bob. He was loving father to Richard T. Haas of Yreka, CA and Christina R. Haas, of Sacramento, CA. He also leaves behind step-sons, Adam Lesly of Sacramento, CA, Christopher Copeland of The Dalles, OR and Kenny Kelly of Yreka, CA; Step-Mom, Mary Haas of Torrance, CA, Granddaughters: Katarina Stevens of Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ, Keiana Haas of Ft. Jones, CA and Alyssa and Kaitlyn Haas of Montague, CA. Brothers: Don Haas of Las Vegas, NV, Mike Haas of Torrance, CA, Bill Baldwin of Yreka, CA, Patrick Baldwin of Corona, CA and sister, Colleen Pengra of Cottonwood Heights, UT. He was, "Uncle Rick" to Rick Haas, Ryan Haas and Todd Haas of Springfield, OR, Adrian and Jessica Graves of Yreka, CA, Fawn Jamison of Portland, OR, Jazmine and Danielle Graves of Fall River Mills, CA and Kaylee Graves of McCloud, CA. He will forever be remembered by his close friends and former spouses, Linda Graves-Reynolds of Glendale, OR, Leslie Egli of Denali, AK and Vickie Haas of Yreka, CA. He will also be greatly missed by his ever faithful dog, Sitka. On April 28th at 1:00 he will be laid to rest at the Ft. Jones Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Greenhorn Grange located at 300 Ranch Lane in Yreka, CA.
