Rosie DeMarco

Longtime Weed resident Rosie DeMarco passed away peacefully in Yreka on July 8, 2010 at the age of 87. She was the beloved wife of her recently deceased husband Matteo DeMarco, loving mother of Frank DeMarko, caring and loving grandmother of Molly and Allison DeMarco, and respected friend of many who knew her. Rosie was born June 20, 1923 in Weed to Vincenzo and Rosina Tallerico. She is survived by her son Frank DeMarco and daughter-in-law Georgeanne DeMarco of Yreka, granddaughters Molly and Allison DeMarco of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and one sister, Domenica DeMarco of Weed. She was predeceased by her husband, Matteo DeMarco, sisters Emma Bortolin and Eleanor Aiello, and brothers John and Jim Tallerico. Rosie grew up in Weed and graduated from Weed High School. She was married to her loving husband Matteo for 68 years. They enjoyed living all of their married life in Weed in an immaculately kept home and landscaped yard. Rosie was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed the duties of being a homemaker. She enjoyed keeping a home, cooking and being around those she loved. She loved using the abundant harvest of their garden, fruit trees and table grape vines and even more enjoyed sharing that produce with others. Nothing was to be wasted, everything was to be used and shared. Rosie was truly one of those great Italian cooks who made a wide variety of dishes and who could make anything taste great. It was truly one of the pleasures of her life to see the enjoyment people derived from the food and baked goods she prepared. She loved all-American foods also, and was always ready to go on picnics and eat in the out of doors. She had many sources of enjoyment including being with her husband, visiting with her son and family, and took a special pleasure in interacting with and providing strong examples to her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Rosie was a person of strong will and even stronger personality. Integrity and honesty were the cornerstones of her life. She believed that you needed to live your life exhibiting those traits every day; that you needed to pay attention to detail, maintain personal pride at all times, and be accountable for your behavior. She was a stickler for cleanliness, believed in maintaining a neat personal appearance, and displayed dignity in everything she did. She had many personal joys including sharing with those in her life, reading, eating good food, baseball, traveling and experiencing great hotels and restaurants. She loved being with her loved ones in numerous places in the world and particularly loved talking with and developing relationships with those she met. She loved learning more about her Italian heritage at every opportunity. She particularly enjoyed visiting the hometown of her parents in Italy where the family home had been converted to a home for children. She made a long time practice of contributing to the children's home and one of the highlights of her life was visiting the home, sharing a meal with the children, being shown around the facilities, having her photograph taken with the children and being thanked by them for being one of their benefactors. These acts of kindness, her unconditional love for her family, her attention to detail and her unbelievable strength of character and commitment to integrity have been and will continue to be tremendous sources of strength to her family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and staff of Fairchild Medical Center for their kind care and attention given to Rosie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed. Burial will follow at Mount Shasta Memorial Park.
