Ruth Marie Peterson

My Ruthie Ruth Marie Peterson, born May 8, 1944 in Muskegon, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2017. Ruth was raised in Bellaire, Michigan. When she was about 14 years old, her parents moved to Oakland, California, settling in Hayward. Ruth spent the rest of her life in California. Around 1964, Ruthie went to a Christian Servicemen’s Center in Oakland called the Port O’Call, where she met her husband of 46 years, Dave Peterson. The couple married on November 21, 1970. Before having children, Ruth worked as a bank teller and clerk at UCB Bank and later Wells Fargo. She became a full time mother and housewife when her son, Daniel, was born. With children in school, she worked part time as a school librarian, and later as a secretary for a prison ministry office, and eventually as an insurance secretary for her husband. With the children grown, she opened a decorative stamp store in Castro Valley, and operated that for 7 years with her business partner, Jan Conner. Married life included raising a family in San Lorenzo, and being a devoted wife and loving mother to their son and daughter. Ruth read regularly at night before bed, many times reading bible stories to her children. Ruth’s Christian walk with the Lord has involved going to the Neighborhood Church in Castro Valley for 30 years, and attending the First Southern Baptist Church of Yreka for the last 16 years, where she has been very active in holding many positions. Her church family has meant a lot to her. Ruthie was a true follower of Christ, and always thought of others before herself. Ruth is survived by her husband, David C. Peterson of Yreka; son, Daniel (wife Christine and children Luke and Nathan) of Anderson, CA; daughter Lynn (husband Reuben Wetherbee and children Mary, Isaac, Owen, and Perry) of Bala Cynwyd, PA; brother, David C. Akins of Talkeetna, AK; sister Millie (husband Rev. David Sutton and daughter Elaine Martin) of Talkeetna, AK; sister, Karen Ross of Boise ID., and her children Jennifer Bergin of Suffolk, VA and Christine Ross of Warrenton, VA; a brother-in-law, Bill Richards of Post Falls, ID and his children, Doug Bass of Sterling, AK, Ed Bass of Georgetown, TX, and Duane Bass of Post Falls, ID; nieces, Pam Peterson of Chicago, IL and Judi MacKenzie of Waban, MA, and nephew, Tim Peterson of Tinley Park, IL, and Scott Peterson of Lisle, IL; sister-in-law Bea Hoffman of Decatur, GA and nieces Elaine and Laura Hoffman of Decatur, GA, and Susan Hoffman of Silver Springs, MD; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ron and Marilou Peterson of Daly City, CA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dwight and Jan Peterson of Anaheim Hills, CA; nephew Brian Peterson of Huntington Beach, CA, and niece Andrea Shedwill of Villa Park, Ca; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Christine and John Fantuzzo of Wayne, PA, nieces Lia Howard of Wynnewood, PA and Cara Dixon on West Chester, PA, and nephew John Fantuzzo of Valparaiso, IN, and nephew Dwayne Peterson of Millbrae, CA. A memorial service will be held for Ruth at the First So. Baptist Church, 921 S. Oregon Street, Yreka, on Tuesday, June 27 at 3:00 p.m.
