Sally Ogas Young

103 year old Yreka resident, Sally Ogas Young passed away peacefully at Madrone Hospice House on September 10, 2018. Sally was born on March 18, 1915 to Sotero and Tomasita Ogas in Redlands, California. Throughout her life, Sally was married and widowed three times. She first married Raymond Martinez Cerda in October of 1936, and he passed away in August of 1960. In June of 1962, Sally married George Ebell, who died in March of 1977. In January of 1992, she married Penrose Raphael “Ray” Young, who passed away in 1999. Sally moved to Yreka in 2008 from Hemet, California. Here in Yreka, she discovered her favorite pastime: watching Mt. Shasta. From the picture window in her home, Sally would watch the ever changing scenes of the mountain. From sunup until sundown, in all seasons, she would love to just sit and watch the mountain in awesome wonder of its beauty. You can imagine her disappointment in the smoky summer we have had! What Mt. Shasta looked like was frequently a topic of discussion when she would speak with friends on the phone, and when friends came over, they always sat in view of the mountain. Sally enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle in the Siskiyou Daily News, she loved to read, and she was an excellent Scrabble player. Often, her Scrabble games would last long into the nights and feature epic battles with family and friends. Sally was one of the friendliest people you could meet. She knew no strangers, and loved meeting new people. Sally, at age 103, was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Lucia and Marcello. She is survived by her children, Corinne (John) Correll of Oklahoma and Rosalie (Larry) Meyer of Yreka, 4 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. At Sally’s request, no public services are to be held. The family will hold a private ceremony in the near future. Sally had a heart of gold, and did not want anybody spending money on flowers for her, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rescue Ranch, 2216 E. Oberlin Road, Yreka; to Purr-Angels, PO Box 672, Yreka; or to Madrone Hospice, Inc., 255 Collier Circle, Yreka.
