Sandra "Sandy" Janney

Sandra (Sandy) Christine Janney, 67 of Scott Valley, passed away on November 13, 2012 after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Sandy was born April 30, 1945 in Richmond, CA to Florence and Russell Ash and older sister Marie Ash (Evans). The Ash family moved to Laytonville CA where Sandy helped her parents at the family owned grocery store and graduated from Laytonville High School. Sandy attended Santa Rosa Junior College where she attended dental hygiene school. While in college Sandy met her future husband Herb Janney of Eureka CA. Sandy and Herb married in Laytonville in 1966 just prior to Herb leaving for the Vietnam War. Herb and Sandy had two children, Matthew and Paul. They relocated their family to Scott Valley in 1976. Sandy enjoyed working with children as a librarian and teacher’s aide at Fort Jones Elementary School. In 1985 at age 40, Sandy was diagnosed with secondary Multiple Sclerosis that ultimately prevented her from working. Sandy enjoyed genealogy, painting, hiking, fly fishing, boating, camping and cross country skiing. She LOVED the ocean, dancing and treasured time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, her numerous friends and her weekly bible study group. Sandy also found a lot of joy in being involved with the churches in Scott Valley and had a strong faith in God. Sandy always appreciated all the love and prayers she received over the years from friends, family members and prayer groups. Sandy is survived by her husband Herb Janney, her two sons Matthew and Paul, her four adoring grandchildren, Connor, Madison, Chace and Violet Mae, her daughter’s- in-law Marissa and Lori, her sister Marie (Ash) Evans & her husband John Evans, sister-in-law Sharon Janney & her husband Ton Van Wageningen, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 @2pm, Scott Valley Berean Church, 134 Church Street, Etna CA . Reception to follow service. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Scott Valley Berean Church in Etna, CA or the Fort Jones Community Church in Fort Jones, CA.
