Sheri Laverne Middleton

Longtime Siskiyou County resident, Sheri Laverne Middleton of Yreka, passed away on August 4, 2026. She was 78 years old. Sheri was born on January 18, 1948, to the late Everette M. and Dorothea L. (Shanks ) Wagy in Albany, OR. In early 1965 in Yreka, Sheri met Jerry Middleton and after dating a brief time, they were married on October 2, 1965, at the Yreka Methodist Church. They spent 57 years of marriage, and 59 years together until Jerry’s passing in 2022. In their marriage they welcomed three boys, Kenneth (1966), Craig (1969), and Corey (1974). Sheri attended Yreka High School and after that she worked a few jobs over the years. Most notably, she ran her own busy and successful housecleaning business in the early eighties through mid nineties, with an impressive clientele and book of business, retiring from that work around 1996. The hardest and most rewarding job she loved was being a homemaker, the matriarch of her family to her husband, children, and grandchildren. As most homemakers are, she was a phenomenal cook, with her three favorite dishes being her famous potato salad, fried chicken and scratch dinner rolls. Whether at a family event, dinner at home, or a camping trip, these dishes were always requested on the menu for Sheri to make and bring for the many family and friends which she truly loved In her pastime, Sheri was an avid bowler at Siskiyou Lanes in Yreka, once taking part in three leagues and holding an impressive average, until her later years in life. She was a true competitor, but above all, she loved the friendships she made. The Wednesday after bowl lunches with the ladies was a time she truly enjoyed, and was something she missed every day since health, and fewer people’s participation after the Covid period forced her to quit in 2020, after nearly 50 years in the sport. On occasion she loved a casino trip to play the slots or pick up a few lotto scratchers, in which good luck came her way quite often. A busy baseball mom when her sons Kenny and Craig played in youth and high school leagues, she attended all the games, worked and ran the snack shack, and was a favorite team mom The players always greeted her with a big hug, smile, and a “Hi Mrs. Middleton,” on or off the field. With a huge heart of gold, she always cheered on the underdog, supported those going through hard times, and would give the shirt off her back, the last dollar in her pocket, or simply listen and help them in any way she could. After her husband passed away, she adored and loved the companionship her rescue dogs, Charlie and Buddy, gave her that were adopted from SNIP in Yreka. They will remain with her son Corey as the promise made and peace to her knowing they would be taken care of by him. Her warm heart, infectious laughter, humor, smile, and kindness will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved her In addition to her parents, Sheri was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 2022, and her beloved son, Kenneth, in 1987, both of whom she missed dearly each and every day of her remaining life. Being reunited with her husband and son, as well as her brother, Gene Wagy, and many other loved ones, gives us much comfort. Sheri is survived by her son, Craig Middleton (partner Tabatha); son, Corey Middleton; granddaughters Brittany Middleton and Garrilynn Middleton-Dickerson and her husband (Shane); brother Jerry Wagy, sister-in-law Shirley Saulsgiver, brother-in-law Stephen Middleton, brother-in-law Leroy Deas, and five great grandchildren: Kenny, Aleah, Quinton, Everett, and Eleanor, along with several nieces and nephews. Sheri will be entered into eternal rest with her husband and son at Evergreen Cemetery.
