V. June Collins

V. June Collins (Nana), age 94, died at Shasta Regional Hospital in Redding California, on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Born May 31, 1916, in Prineville Oregon, to Awilda Josephine and Lee Edward Blevins, She grew up on a ranch in the Ochaco, about 20 miles East of Prineville. She moved to Grants Pass, Oregon with her family in 1932. She attended high school in Grants Pass. She graduated from Pacific School of Beauty Culture as a Cosmetologist, in Portland Oregon. She worked as a Cosmetologist for a number of years. On July 1, 1940 she married Gareld Jefferson (Jerry) Collins of Grants Pass, in Reno Nevada. They had saved $19.00 in dimes so they could get married. She and her new husband moved that same year to Yreka. June has written poetry much of her life. She published a book called COWBOY POETRY and Barn Sour Verse. She and Jerry attended the 2009 Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko Nevada, culminating 20 years of attendance. She and her husband Jerry enjoyed raising buckskin horses and trail riding. One of the big events of there lives was completing the Chief Joseph Trail ride from Oregon to Canada. June was a member of Yreka Trail Riders; Siskiyou Writers Club; National Writers Association; National Authors Registry; Lynn County Historical Society, and Lynn County Genealogical Society of Albany Oregon, and the Genealogical Society of Siskiyou County; She is a Life Member of American Buckskin Registry Association; Crook County Historical Society, and Siskiyou County Historical Society. Survivors include her son Lael and wife Carolyn Collins of Yreka and daughter in law, Judy Collins of Portland, Oregon. Two sisters; Virginia Clements of Arizona and Olive Ruth Prewiett of Washington. Grand children are Michelle Hamilton and Ralph Collins of Oregon, Shaun Collins and wife Pam of Missouri, Harold Collins and wife Jen of Maryland, Gregory Collins and wife Lorelei and Sarah Roberts and husband Scott of Alaska, Chester Collins and wife Trudy of Indonesia, Jeffery and wife Cyndi and Darrel & wife Stacy Collins of Yreka. June has (16) great grandchildren and (5) great, great grandchildren June was preceded in death by her husband Gareld Jefferson (Jerry) Collins, her son Michael Lee Collins, and her sister Evelyn Cole. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday October 8, 2010 at Little Shasta Cemetery. Girdner Funeral Chapel 530-842-3434 is handling arrangements.
