Vera Josephine Rizzardo

Lifelong Siskiyou County resident Vera Rizzardo passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021 at Madrone Hospice in Yreka. She was 91 years old. Vera was born to Frank and Frieda Deas on October 1, 1929, and married Mario Rizzardo in 1947. They had three children and continued life on the ranch. Vera had a beauty shop in her home for 36 years. She was active in the Catholic Church and Choir, was a community 4-H leader for 15 years and taught boys cooking class. She was a very involved mother with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always ready to go to a ball game or a rodeo. Another highlight of her life was going hunting out of state with her family and friends. Vera raised a beautiful garden, and loved sharing her famous pickled beets and salsa. Her flowers were one of her passions as well. She enjoyed quilting and reading. She always had plenty of good food on the table because undoubtedly someone would pop in at mealtime. In 1998, she and Mario sold their ranch and built a home just north of the ranch on Montague-Grenada Road. Their views of the Shasta River and Mt. Shasta were spectacular. She remained there after Mario passed away in 2011. In 2019, when her health began to decline, she moved into assisted living in Yreka. She remained there until further health issues required her to move to Madrone Hospice. Vera is survived by a daughter, Linda McKoen; a son, Frank Rizzardo; a daughter-in-law, Devanee Rizzardo; grandchildren Billy Gallagher (Stacy), Ryan Gallagher (Sam), Christopher McKoen (Loralee), Nate Rizzardo (Jessica), Stephen Rizzardo (Natalie), Kyle Rizzardo (Marissa), Stephanie Rizzardo (Jerry) and Bethanie Bray (Pistol); great grandchildren Will (Rosa), Wyatt, Garrett and Hadley Gallagher, Oaklee and Rita McKoen (and an expected new baby), Cailey, Kaylynn, Sutter, Tanner, Steele, Klayton, Kolton and Ava Rizzardo, Kayla Graves, Jaiden Unruh, and Colt and Brittany Bray; a great great grandson, Tripp Gallagher; a sister, Stella Sutter; a brother-in-law Marino Rizzardo (Nola); a sister-in-law Tersilla Precie; and many nieces, nephews and friends she loved dearly. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Mario; a son, Ernie; a son-in-law Mike McKoen; a brother and sister-in-law John and Edna Rizzardo; and brothers-in-law Mike Precie and Martin Sutter. The Mass of Christian Burial will be for family only, due to COVID restrictions. A memorial graveside will be open to everyone on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Yreka. Everyone is also invited to a barbeque at the ranch on Montague-Grenada Road. Please dress for the weather. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097, or to a charity of one's choice.
