William "Bill" John Kaylor

William John (Bill) Kaylor Bill Kaylor was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on August 30, 1940, to Opal and Eldon Kaylor. At that time, Eldon, Opal and Bill’s older brother Jerry resided in Henley, Oregon. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Macdoel, California. Bill attended Macdoel Elementary School and graduated from Butte Valley High School in 1958. On April 25, 1959, Bill married Janet Maltzan his “High School Sweetheart” in Reno, Nevada. In 2009, Bill and Janet celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary. On June 8, 2009, Janet passed away from a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s disease. On September 24, 2010, Bill rejoined his beloved wife in eternity. Bill’s health had declined over several years due to a number of medical issues; He passed away at home from a heart attack. Janet stayed home to raise their children then worked for the Dorris Elementary School for 23 years. Both were very involved in youth sports and supporting the community. Bill served as a Volunteer Fireman for the Dorris Fire Department, was a board member for the Butte Valley Unified School District and a board member and coach for the Butte Valley Little League for 15 years. Bill worked for Medo-Bel Creamery, Miracle Builders Construction Company and ultimately retired from the Siskiyou County Road Department in 2003. When not working, Bill and Janet loved the outdoors. They loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. They will be greatly missed by their many friends and family members. They are survived by their children John and his wife Tania Kaylor of Redding and Lisa Robertson of Dorris. They were most proud of their five grandsons’ and one great granddaughter. Bill is survived by his Brother Jerry and wife Alice of Toledo, Oregon, Sister Susan and Husband Kelly McKinnis of Weed, and Sister Carolee Freitas of Dorris as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Bill is preceded in death by his wife Janet, parents Opal and Eldon Kaylor and younger brother Bob. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Muriel and Malcolm Maltzan and her brother Kenneth. A celebration of life for both Bill and Janet will be held on November 20, 2010, at the Dorris City Hall. Additional details will be forthcoming.
