Catherine Elaine Johnston

Catherine Elaine Johnston (Waggoner) passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 10, 2017. Cathy was 58. Cathy was born in St Helena California on May 12, 1958 to Larry and Elaine Waggoner, she was the fourth of five siblings. Cathy grew up in Napa where she attended Salvador Elementary, Redwood Junior High and graduated from Vintage High School in 1976. Cathy married her high school sweetheart, John Johnston. The couple settled on the Johnston estate in Napa where they soon welcomed a son, Quentin Johnston in January 1978. A beautiful daughter soon followed, Genny was born in January 1980. The family moved to Siskiyou county shorty after to escape the growing suburban influence in Napa. They lived on the Salmon River prior to moving to Etna. Shortly thereafter, Cathy and John parted ways. Cathy was a kind and loving mother who always put her children first. She loved reading to Quentin and Genny and would spend hours playing games with them. Cathy was a country girl at heart and had a talent for making the most of everything she had. She loved the outdoors and all that nature had to offer, especially collecting unique rocks from the local creeks. Cathy’s pride and joy were her 5 grandsons, Ashton, Xander and Ryder Elam of Etna, California and Ethan McNeelan and Zachary Johnston of Napa, California. Cathy was her happiest when spending time with her grandsons. Cathy is survived by her loving companion, Charles Brewer of Etna, son Quentin Johnston and wife Jacqui of Napa, Daughter Genny Elam and husband, Albert of Etna, as well as her 5 grandsons. She is also survived by her mother Elaine Edwards of El Paso Texas, brother Larry Waggoner of Portland, Oregon, sister Linda Waggoner of Healdsburg, California, brother Chris Waggoner of Las Cruces, New Mexico as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. Cathy is predeceased by her father Larry and brother Bill Waggoner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 4 at 1:00pm, at Girdner Funeral Chapel. 202 South Oregon St. Yreka. A reception will follow at Three Little Birds Restaurant in Fort Jones.
