Clarence "Clancy: Ray Johnson

73 year old Clarence "Clancy" R. Johnson passed away on January 2, 2021 at home in Yreka with his family by his side. He had endured a long battle with cancer. Clancy was born in Moorhead, Iowa on February 20, 1947 to Byrl and Stella Johnson. At 15 years old, Clancy went to live and work at the Hoffman Ranch in Ida Grove, Iowa, where he travelled to various states with the family to sell cattle. Clancy had many fond memories of these years. In March, 1966, Clancy joined the U.S. Navy and honorably served until December, 1969. His basic training was completed at San Diego, and his Interior Communications Electrician, Class "A" schooling in Illinois. Tours of duty included assignments on the submarines USS Skipjack, USS Charr and USS Bugara. Upon return from the Navy and the trade he learned there, Clancy built Johnson Electric from the ground up. He began as an electrician and worked into general contracting. He genuinely enjoyed a hard day's work, and he had a gleam in his eye if it included operating a new piece of technical equipment. He took personal satisfaction in a job well done. Many of his customers became lifelong friends and he never met a stranger. He loved life, his family and hard work. When not working, he was enjoying the fruits of his labor by getting family or friends together for camping, fishing, hunting or just boating on the lake. He also enjoyed weekend horseback trips to the mountains. A social man, he was a regular at morning coffee with "the guys" where they would swap stories, tell bad jokes and check in on each other's lives. His hearty laugh, beaming smile, bear hugs and generosity will be greatly missed. Clancy is survived by his wife, Candy; son Robert (Wendy) of Yachats, OR; son Danny Gee (Michelle) of Medford, OR; brothers and sisters Artaruth Peters of Reno, Nevada, Walt Morrow of Lyons, Nebraska, Dale Johnson of Denison, Iowa and Bernice Murr of Odebolt, Iowa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Donna (Ed) Cruz, Kenny Kyle, Patty (Rick) Hood and Sandy (Jim) Sweet, grandchildren William, Max, Drayson, Keegan, Carolyn and Leonna, and extended family and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Abby. Clancy was preceded in death by his parents Byrl and Stella Johnson, sisters Lavonne Morrow, Mona Morrow, Wilma Johnson, Mattie Williams, Rosemary Lesko, Barbara Stan and Dorothy Kyle, and brothers Edison Johnson, Dee Johnson, Lyle Morrow and Richard Johnson. A memorial will be planned for a later date.
