Diane Carol Hott

Diane Carol Hott, 69 year old Hornbrook resident, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at her home. Diane was born December 8, 1944 in Oakland to Frank and Doris Rocca. She was raised in Oakland and Boulder Creek, attending Castlemonte High School. It was in 1958 in Jr. High that Diane met Joe Hott. They were married on June 20, 1964 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Boulder Creek. They later settled in Felton to raise their family. Diane worked at Wrigley’s Gum, Felton Bowling Alley and Scott’s Valley Answering Service. She then went to work for Community Hospital for 11 years and Dominican Hospital for 9 years. In 1994, she and Joe moved to Siskiyou County. Diane enjoyed camping, fishing and boating with her family at Howard Prairie Lake Resort. One of her favorite things to do was to sit and crochet, making doggie and baby blankets on her daddy’s chair. She collected Elvis Presley memorabilia, dolls, plates and deer. She enjoyed watching sports, including the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland A’s, NASCAR, golf, drag racing and the San Francisco 49’ers. She also enjoyed watching The Mentalist on Sunday evenings with her grandson, J.J., on their “Sunday Night Date”. She loved making her grandson, Charley, his “no bake” cookies. Her son, Joey, loved keeping her house and yard manicured. Her great granddaughter, lily, was the apple of her eye and her granddaughter, Kira, was her baking buddy. Another of Diane’s favorite past times was playing card games on her computer. She enjoyed friend and family time playing 313 and dominoes and BS with Toby and Carl Thomas, Donna and Tom Christiana, Katy Carr, Sandy Jo and Sonny. She was also known for giving cards to friends for many different occasions. She also enjoyed keeping track of snow and rainfall amounts for the year. Diane was a volunteer for the Felton Fire Department Auxiliary and was the heart and soul of the Neighborhood Watch in Siskiyou County as well as Hornbrook. She was also the backbone and was very passionate about the future Black Mountain Fire Dept. for 8 years and the family will continue Joe and Diane’s dream. Diane is remembered by Donna Seidenstein and Sally Hammond as always being in the kitchen and being one of the nicest women. Diane was preceded in death her husband, Joe, in February of last year. She is survived by; 3 children, Edith Buckingham and her fiancé, Dan Best, Suzanne Hott and Joseph F. Hott, all of Hornbrook; one brother, Richard Rocca; seven grandchildren, Gerald “J.J.” Buckingham, Charles “Charley” Buckingham, Destiny Buckingham, Krysta Hott, Kira Martensen (“Hott”), Gabe Best and Chris Kendrick; one special great granddaughter, Lilyana Buckingham and four nieces and nephews, Michael Rocca, Sandy Rocca, Christopher Rocca and Teniel Rocca. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Frank (Francis) Rocca. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday evening, April 7, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hornbrook Community Church in Hornbrook with burial to follow in the Henley Hornbrook Cemetery in Hornbrook. Memorial contributions may be made to the Black Mt. Volunteer Fire Auxiliary, 13623 Ager Rd., Hornbrook, CA 96044.
