Evelyn June Glendenning

Evelyn (Leake) Glendenning, 86, passed away on March 19, 2018 with her daughter, Sherry, at her side. She was a resident of Siskiyou County her entire life. Evelyn was born to Ida Hammond and Roy B. (Bud) Leake on June 19, 1931 at home on the Hammond Brothers Ranch in Edgewood. Her brother, Roy B. (Sonny) Leake Jr. was born in 1934. She attended school at Fort Jones grade school and graduated from Fort Jones High School in 1948 at the age of 16. On August 21, 1948 Evelyn married Duane Scott Glendenning on the Glendenning Ranch in Fort Jones. Together they had two children, Terry and Sherry. Evelyn worked at Fort Jones High School as secretary from January, 1961 thru June, 1968. “Mrs. G”, as she was called, worked at Yreka High School from August, 1969 until August, 1994. She started at Discovery High School and on to Yreka High School as Attendance Secretary. Evelyn was involved in many activities. She loved bowling, and bowled in Fort Jones, Yreka and many tournaments in Reno. She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter #10 since April 17, 1958, and Yreka Trail Riders. Evelyn was active with Scott Valley Pleasure Park and Junior Pleasure Park with the drill team. She was involved with 4-H in many different roles. She was excellent with a pair of sheep clippers. Evelyn was active with Little League and the Fort Jones Little League Park. She played softball when they had women’s softball in Scott Valley. Duane and Evelyn had a cabin in Salmon River up Mule Bridge. This was her most favorite place to spend time. She loved the “beach” at Salmon River and gold panning. She loved to go to the Marble Mountains with her aunts and uncles, Charlie & Ruth Hammond and Quincy & Evelyn Hammond. The Hammond Cabin was a very special place for her with all the mountain lakes and all the fishing and buck hunting. She was a true outdoor person. Evelyn is survived by her son, Terry, and daughter, Sherry. She also leaves behind grandson Steve (Margo) Jessee and great grandchildren Emilynn and Walker Jessee and Jade Blaizer; special grandchildren Teal and Colby Rimmer; nephews Jon Scott Leake; Kelsie, Alan and Russell White & their families. Also many cousins from the Hammond and Leake families, dear friends Debbie & Kris, Dick Berry and family, Shellee Mittan and family and Dan & Pam Rimmer. At Evelyn’s request, no services are to be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097 or to a charity of one’s choice.
