Jena Tosi

Jena Debortoli Tosi went to rest with her beloved Louie on June 30, 2012. She was born in McCloud on March 1, 1917 to Vittorio and Guiditta Debortoli. She was 95 years old and a lifelong resident of Siskiyou County. She is survived by a very large and loud Italian family, including her daughters Susan (Rennie) Cleland of Dorris, Ann (Art) Easton of Bend, Oregon and Patty Tosi of Weed and her son, Jerry Tosi of Weed. She was “Noni” to six grandchildren, Sandee (Dary) Breshears of Silverton, Oregon, Kevin Easton (Jeremy Garrison) of San Francisco, Julie (Justin) Lovrien of Redmond, Oregon, Peter Coffman of Portland Oregon, Anna Cleland of Nashville, Tennessee, and Mary Beth Cleland of Roseburg, Oregon. She was also “Big Noni” to four beautiful great granddaughters, Ashleigh and Erin Breshears and Jenna and Kylee Lovrien. She is also survived by her sister Jezzie Sterchi of Weed as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jena was a registered Nurse most of her life who earned the admiration and respect of all her peers. She received her nursing degree from Mercy College of Nursing in Sacramento in 1948. She began her career at the old Weed Hospital and then worked for thirty plus years at the Mount Shasta Hospital. Nursing was her true joy in life. Assisting or delivering newborn babies gave her the most pleasure at her job. There were times she would work hours after her shift was over to assist in the delivery of a child. She could remember every child she helped into this world and who their parents were. Her second biggest passion was education. She insisted all her children do well in school and work to their full potential. Her proudest achievement was that all six of her grandchildren graduated from college with Bachelor Degrees. She was always the rock that supported their achievements. On counting the number of degrees, including the four children and six grandchildren, there are 10 Bachelor Degrees and 2 Master Degrees. If there was one word to describe Jena it would be “Kind”. She loved her family and would do (and did) everything for them. She married the love of her life, Louie Tosi, on July 16, 1949. The two were inseparable. They loved to deer hunt, cut firewood, and most of all, loved to go to Reno. She was a devoted Catholic and had a personal relationship with her savior Jesus Christ with whom she spoke to daily. Praying the Rosary always gave her the greatest comfort. She passed from this world with a Rosary in her hand. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Louie Tosi, her father and mother Vittorio and Guiditta Debortoli, two brothers, Jiggs Debortoli and Gino Debortoli, and sister (also her Best Friend) Jennie Acquistapace. The recitation of the Rosary was held on Thursday evening, July 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the church with burial to follow at the Winema Cemetery in Weed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Hospice, Mt. Shasta.
