Joan Karlene Wishart

Joan Karlene Wishart, a long time resident of Siskiyou County passed away on the morning of Wednesday June 13th, 2012 in the presence of her beloved husband and family at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka, California. Joan was born at home on September 22, 1939 to her parents Ernest and Ruby Green in Fort Bidwell, California. Joan went to High School in Paisley, Oregon and married Gene Wishart in Paisley on December 21st, 1956. Joan and Gene moved to Siskiyou County and raised their four children in the surrounding areas including Little Shasta, Fort Jones, Montague and Yreka. Joan will always be remembered by those who knew her well for her love, timely support and dedication to her family. When she could find time for herself she enjoyed her garden, and in times of poor weather she was likely to be found with a good book or watching a Sci-Fi movie. She loved to see new places, meet new people and always looked forward to the next opportunity for travel. In recent years she and Gene had spent several years traveling south for the winter months. As their open natures allowed they made many new friends with whomever they met and wherever they called home. Joan was a tenacious fighter and her strong will inspired all those who knew her. Although she struggled much of her life with major health issues she was not one to complain about her lot in life, preferring to display the more positive outlook she shared with her family and friends. She was openly proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and thoroughly enjoyed attending any function in which they participated. Being with her family was her greatest joy. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Ruby Green, her twin infant boys in 1959 and her older brother Dale Green. Joan is survived by her husband Gene Wishart; brothers Jordan Green, Tim Green, Mark Green; one sister Mary Cramer; her surviving four children and their spouses, Ron and Debbie Wishart (Lake Shastina, California) Connie and Dan Homeres (McMinnville, Oregon) Wayne and Liz Wishart (Redding, California) and Randy and Melissa Wishart (Montague, California); 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Joan will be much missed by her loving family and friends. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on July 12, 2012 at Girdner Funeral Chapel. Following the service will be a potluck meal at the home of Randy and Melissa Wishart, 470 West Prather, Montague. Contributions can be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
