June C Salvestro

June Salvestro passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 24, 2025 at the age of 92. Born in the small rural town of Eagle Point, Oregon, June grew up with five siblings. She lived on the original homestead of her family's farm. It was a lively household full of love for family and friends. As a child, she attended church and a small-town school where grades were sometimes combined. She worked at a soda shop and after graduating high school moved to Medford, where she worked at a furniture store. June met the love of her life, Johnie Salvestro, upon his return from Korea after serving in the 2nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army. They married in 1953 at the Hilt church. They lived in Fruit Growers Supply company-owned homes and embarked on their classic '50s lifestyle. The ultimate homemaker and event coordinator, she was active in the PTA and poll work for local elections. She assisted Johnie as the scorekeeper and team mom for Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. She was the Cub Scouts Den Mother for many years. June was supportive of her three children's hobbies throughout their childhood. She encouraged their artistic and musical abilities, various club events, and an array of sports teams. She raised and nursed a menagerie of wild and domestic pets for her children to enjoy, and fostered a love of animals in her children. Upon the closing of the Hilt mill, Johnie was transferred and became a forester in Burney where they moved their family in 1974. June worked for Shasta County Social Services for 20 years. She and Johnie returned to Yreka for their dream retirement home, where they could enjoy the beautiful views from their living room window of morning sunrises over Bogus, Goose Nest, and Mt. Shasta and could garden to their hearts' content. June had a gentle and loving soul, yet also had an amazing vigor for life. An outdoor enthusiast, she possessed skills in hiking, camping, hunting & fishing. Not only could she dress and process game, she was a wonderful cook as well. She was a creative seamstress and was skilled in canning and preserving the bounties of their garden. After a long day's work, she could then magically transform to the fashionable envy of the dance floor. Aside from her love of family, her passion was gardening. Fondly known for cultivating and nurturing her heirloom roses equally as well as she would nurture her beloved children and grandchildren. She loved sharing her plants and generously passed on starts to family and neighbors. June was preceded in death by her parents, John Oliver Carnes and Florence Bonita Adamson; her siblings, Ray, Christine, Shirley, & Peggy and great-granddaughter Trinity Reinhart who was lost while proudly serving our country in the US Air Force. June is survived by her husband of 72 years, John R. Salvestro, her brother Donald Carnes, her three children Lorena (Lee) Reinhart, Terry (Shannon) Salvestro, Marlene Lerum (John Scott); grandchildren: Brian (Ann) Reinhart, Travis (Erika) Salvestro, Eryn (José) Lewis, Cory (Michelle) Lerum, Kirstie (Lane) Wilson, Zachary (Kayla) Salvestro, & Hazelle Lerum (Rand Michie), and ten great-grandchildren Forever loved and cherished... A private family service and burial will be held on October 1, 2025.
