Robert G. Evans

On December 22, 2015; Robert G. Evans passed away after a long degenerative lung condition. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his older brother Gene Evans. He is survived by his wife of 42 years; Judy Evans, his daughter Denise (George) Muntz, his step-son Jerry Armstrong, grandchildren Kristy (Tom) Coulbourn, Tammy White, Tabby Etayem, Elizabeth Armstrong, David Armstrong, Amanda Armstrong, Emma Armstrong, Alisha Parham and his eight great grandchildren; Dante, TJ, Nate, Hunter, Dakotah, George, Julius, and Elianna. Robert (Bob) was born on March 26, 1935 to Lena Turney and Sam Evans in Hutchison, Kansas. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and worked on an Underwater Demolition Team during the Korean War. Following the war he joined the Compton Police Department where he worked his way up to Lieutenant. After the Riots, Bob moved to San Diego, California in 1969, where he traded in his badge for a General Contractor’s license and rented out heavy machinery. After two previous failed marriages he met and married Judy on Aug. 31, 1973. Bob and his new wife enjoyed geology and became members of the El Cajon Gem and Mineral Club and Bob was their President for two years and the Show Chairman for three. When the housing boom in San Diego went bust, Bob and his wife moved to Siskiyou County where he continued his General Contracting throughout many years as well as opening two restaurants. The short lived Evans Inn opened in downtown Weed in 1981 and Porky Bob’s soon followed in 1983, located near the Weed Airport. During the years of Porky Bob’s success, Bob enjoyed working with gems and silver, was a talented silversmith and was a fair ranch hand, enjoying the country atmosphere of Northern California. Bob retired in 2003; closing down Porky Bob’s and soon after moved to Gazelle. He enjoyed his new land and its beautiful view of Mt. Shasta for a number of years. He volunteered for the Gazelle Fire Board. He was president of the Fire Board for four years and was voted citizen of the year for the Gazelle Fired Department in 2009. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards with his friends and playing Pai Gow in the various casinos he visited. He could often be found sitting on his deck watching the horses and cattle in the pasture, to him it was one of the most wonderful sights he could enjoy. It is hard to condense such a full life into so few words. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a stubborn, cantankerous, crabby, tough guy with a heart of gold and he will be sorely missed. No services are scheduled.
