Robert "Bob" Ray Weber

Robert Ray Weber of Yreka, California, passed away on April 17, 2012, with his family at his side after living 84 full and lively years. Bob was born with an adventurous spirit to Nicholas and Loreen Weber, on March 14, 1928 in San Francisco. He moved to Yreka as an infant and stayed until he finished 8th grade. Bob’s independent nature led him into the Navy at age 17, where he served on the USS Altamaha. When he returned, Bob went back to school and graduated from Shasta High School. He then went to Modesto Junior College to play football continuing onto San Francisco State where he received his teaching credential. Proving his love for learning and his value for education, Bob received his masters degree from Utah State in 1969 in Sociology. While Bob was at Modesto, he met and married Joyce Ayers in 1948. Together they had three children, Georgia, Lisa, and Robert Junior. In 1958 the family returned to Yreka where Bob took a teaching and coaching position at Yreka High School, which he loved and enjoyed to the fullest. Bob was involved in the community in several ways. He served as summer recreation director, volunteer fire fighter, and on the City Council. He had a zest for life that influenced not only his family, but also those who surrounded him. After Joyce passed away, he married Carolyn Baumbach in 1975. Three more children were added to his family, Rod, Cindy, and Tracy. Bob retired after more than 30 years of teaching in 1985. He continued to inspire and teach in his own special way to his family and friends, often giving sound advice and gentle understanding to a challenging situation. He lived his truth to the best of his ability; trying not to ever hurt anyone intentionally, speaking his mind, and always being a loving and positive role model. He showed us that love is our greatest gift. During retirement Bob enjoyed fishing, hiking, golfing, visiting with friends at Don’s Sporting Goods, discussing politics, traveling with Carolyn, watching his grandchildren in their sporting events and recently learning to Skype! Spending time with his family and eating homemade lemon meringue pie were two of his favorite activities. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Weber, two daughters, Georgia Conroy (Richard Conroy), Lisa Allen (Gene Allen), and stepdaughters Cindy Sperry (Zel Sperry) and Tracy DeMay (Ron DeMay). His ultimate pride were his 10 grandchildren (Gabriele, Sage, Hilary, Amy, Brooke, Noelle, Zel Jr., Jenny, Michael, and Tyler) and seven great grandchildren (Bryson, Lindsay, Grace, Madeline, Ashley, Kaitlynn, and Rilynn). The feeling was mutual! As per Bob’s request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help establish a USI scholarship in our beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend’s memory.
