Shelli Marie Barnes

Shelli Barnes went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus and so many other loved ones in the early morning hours of September 17, 2025, just ten days after celebrating her 68th birthday. She had been courageously dealing with severe heart issues that were discovered after a stroke in May. She was facing a tough road ahead, but the Lord had other plans. Shelli was born on September 7, 1957, in Huntington Park, California but always called Yreka home. She spent her life surrounded by family and friends. A graduate of Yreka High School, Class of 1975, she worked for many years as a hostess at Grandma's House Restaurant. With her warm smile and kind heart, she made every guest feel welcome and built lasting friendships throughout the community. She had a lifelong love for animals and a special gift for nurturing them. Over the years, Shelli cared for and raised Persian cats, English bulldogs, Shih Tzu dogs, peacocks, and even pot-bellied pigs. Each brought her joy and became part of her extended family. But the greatest joy of Shelli's life was being a mother. Her two beloved daughters, Jade and Jasmine, both adopted from China, were her most treasured blessing and the love of her life. She often said she believed God had hand-picked them just for her, and she never stopped marveling at the gift of being their mom. Shelli will be remembered for her faith, her devotion to her family, her quick wit, and her unwavering love for animals. Her presence brightened every gathering, and her absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who loved her. Shelli is survived by her parents, Tom and Flo Barnes of Yreka; her daughters Jade Barnes/Brotherton of Redwood City, CA, and Jasmine Barnes/Permenter of Yreka; her brother Kenny (Lorena) Barnes of Yreka; her nieces Alexia Barnes of Yreka and Chelsea (Logan) Johnson of Redmond, Oregon; her nephew Brad Barnes of Bend, Oregon; and Chelsea and Logan's children, Quinn and Calloway Johnson. She was preceded in death by other beloved family members and special friends who no doubt welcomed her with open arms. Her immediate family gathered for a private time of remembrance at the home of her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shelli's memory to the Rescue Ranch in Yreka.
